Prospecting for web design agencies

Prospecting for web design and development agencies

Find the businesses in your niche whose sites are working against them, identify the owner, and open with the thing you noticed rather than the things you offer.

Self-serve from the Free plan with no card, or fully managed. Every result is grounded in live search or it is discarded.

Who this is for

Agencies and freelancers of one to twenty people who build for a sector — trades, hospitality, professional services, ecommerce — and want a repeatable channel alongside referrals. This is also the niche Prospexly used to acquire its own first customers, with this exact configuration.

What Prospexly finds

Companies with a website you can look at before the first email is written — which is the point. The company record carries the site, the description and the source page, so the sequence can refer to something real about their presence.

Searches that work well here

  • “Plumbing and heating companies in Nottingham”
  • “Independent estate agents in Devon”
  • “Physiotherapy clinics within 25 km of Sheffield”
  • “Craft breweries in Scotland”

Who it identifies

Named people in the roles that can say yes, each carrying the page they were found on. Email addresses are only ever stored when they are published; a pattern-guessed address is refused rather than generated.

  • Owner
  • Founder
  • Managing Director
  • Marketing Manager

The angle the sequence takes: A single observation about their site or their market and a concrete next step. Not a redesign pitch; a question about the thing the site is for, whether that is bookings, enquiries or sales.

What happens automatically

  1. Step 1

    Companies are found

Grounded searches against live results, every company carrying the page it was found on. Anything that cannot be traced to a source is discarded.

  2. Step 2

    The right people are identified

The roles you name, looked up on the company's own site and the public record. Where a name has no published address, enrichment researches one and never guesses.

  3. Step 3

    Addresses are verified

Syntax, domain, mail servers, disposable providers and role accounts, before anything is sent. Undeliverable addresses are left out with the reason recorded.

  4. Step 4

The sequence is written and sent

Each step written to the recipient from your offer and their record, threaded as a reply, and sent from your own mailbox at a pace its warmup allows.

  5. Step 5

    Replies become opportunities

A reply stops the follow-ups, opens an opportunity on your pipeline, marks the contact engaged and creates a task to answer them.

  6. Step 6

    Everything lands in the CRM

Companies, people, messages, opens, clicks and replies, on records you keep whether or not you stay on a paid plan.

On the self-serve plans you run the searches and enrol the people; on Managed the engine does every step above on a ten-minute timer and you answer the replies.

What it replaces

  • Cold-calling from a directory
  • A bought list of domains with no names attached
  • A separate prospecting tool, sequencer, verifier and CRM
  • Waiting for the next word-of-mouth project

What you can measure

  • Companies found in your niche, on the Autopilot page
  • Reply rate per step, so you learn which observation lands
  • Opportunities opened and their quoted value, on the pipeline board
  • Projects won whose first contact was a sequence email

No response-rate promises here, deliberately. The numbers above are counted by the CRM and are yours to read after the first fortnight.

What it costs

One AI lead is one company or one contact. A search returning 10 companies with 1 contact each uses 20 leads. The Free plan includes the whole CRM and 2 AI leads a month with no card, so the first search costs nothing.

Questions from web design agencies

Does the AI look at their website before writing?
Company enrichment reads the site and search results together and writes what it can confirm — description, size, founding year — onto the record. The email is then written from that record, so a claim about their business traces to something the model read rather than something it assumed.
We are a two-person studio. Is Managed overkill?
Managed exists for exactly this size: the studio has no salesperson and the founders bill by the hour. Start on Starter if you want to run the searches yourself and see the results first; the two are the same engine, and Managed is the version that runs without you.
Can I exclude agencies and competitors?
The searches ask for the kinds of business you name, so a search for plumbers does not return web agencies. Anything already in your CRM is excluded automatically, and any company you never want contacted can be marked do not contact.

Run one search and look at what comes back

The Free plan needs no card and includes the whole CRM. Search for the businesses you sell to, open a company and check the source page it came from. That is the only test that matters.
